HERITAGE & CULTURAL PROJECTS
HONOURING THE PAST WHILST EMBRACING THE FUTURE
From prestigious cultural landmarks to sensitive residential restorations, we deliver projects that honour the past while embracing the future. We help historic buildings meet the demands of modern life through solutions that are both sympathetic and sensitive to their unique character. Our approach is rooted in a deep appreciation for the artistry and legacy inherent in every building, combined with a steadfast commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

PROJECT INSIGHTS
RMS CHAPEL
We were invited to support the restoration of a deceptively beautiful Grade II listed 1930s chapel, a cherished focal point of a school campus and daily life for its community.
-
Due to neglect, water ingress has damaged the stunning barrel-vaulted plaster ceiling—a key architectural feature of the building. This project required more than technical coordination; it demanded careful listening, strategic planning, and a shared commitment to preserving the spirit of this unique space.
-
Our approach centred on restoring the chapel’s integrity while thoughtfully integrating modern updates needed for its continued use:
Protecting what matters: External repairs to make the building watertight, including roof restoration, wall repairs using appropriate materials, and guttering replacement.
Respectful conservation: Specialist repair of the barrel-vaulted plaster ceiling, retaining as much of the original craftsmanship as possible.
Thoughtful modernisation: Discreet integration of heating, lighting, and safety features designed to support the space’s function without disrupting its character.
Recognising that historic buildings carry memory, meaning, and identity, we brought together the client, school leaders, conservation specialists, engineers, and local authorities in open collaboration. Regular workshops and site visits ensured transparent communication, enabling all stakeholders to contribute expertise and share a unified restoration vision. This collaborative methodology acknowledges that this chapel is not just an architectural asset—it is a living space deeply connected to its community.
-
Planning and Listed Building Consent have been applied for and we are awaiting a decision, this will pave the way for sensitive improvements to the chapel. The developed design carefully protects the historic fabric of the building while creating a more usable and flexible space for the school community. By balancing conservation with functionality, the project ensures that the chapel remains both cherished and practical for generations to come.
